Generally we have two activities each month; a semi-formal Dementia Advisory Group Meeting on the first Wednesday of the month (except January) in the Kiama Council offices. This meeting is open to anyone with Dementia who wishes to have direct input into the Kiama Dementia Friendly project. The group also organises informal monthly gatherings at a variety of local points of interest. These activities are styled on the idea of a social picnic, with people getting together over a coffee (or any other beverage) to relax in a non-threatening atmosphere. Click on our Activity-Group-2016 schedule to see where we are meeting this year. Follow the posts to see what’s coming up. For more detail email us on

Community Awareness

Science and Schooners

The following is a ‘practice’ run of a presentation (to be) given at the Uni Bar – The University of Wollongong on May 28th.

I was proud to be invited to do this presentation, but doubly so because my oldest son was able to attend.

April Picnic

Our April picnic will be held on Thursday 11th April  at Apex Park in Berry. We plan to meet around 11:00 am and will probably have lunch across the street at the Leaf or where ever the consensus of opinion takes us.

March Picnic

Our next get together will be this coming Thursday 14th March. We be at Currarong. Meet at the park at the Currarong Ck end of Piscator Ave around 11 am. If it is raining there is shelter there. If the weather is good we may adjourn after lunch to Abrahams Bosom Reserve and  take one of the walks out to the headland to spot some wildlife like Seals or maybe (unlikely this time of year) a passing whale or three.

Making Sense of Our Senses!

In preparation for our next public Dementia Awareness Presentations At Gerringong Bowling Club we have updated and prepared some short videos on our sensory problems.

Dementia Awareness Presetation

We will hold this on Friday 8th March in Gerringong Bowling Club. We aim to start at 10:00 am and will run for about 3 hours with copious breaks for discussion/toilets etc.

First 2019 Barbeque

Our first social get-together for the year will be this coming Thursday at Dennis’s home in Nowra. The BBQ will fire up at midday, so if you’d like a coffee and muffin before, then be there early. All are welcome.

Saturday 8th Sept saw the now annual Bondi-2-Berry bike ride. This year saw over 80 riders undertake the 155km ride. The stop over in Kiama was hosted at Hindmarsh park this year, and despite overcast sky’s the much needed rain held off.
